In aproactive move to support a noble cause, the leader of the opposition in Parliament, Hon. Joel Ssenyonyi, accompanied by other members of the opposition, including the Secretary-General of the NUP party, Mr. Rubongoya Lewis, made a significant visit to the Bulange in Mengo. Their purpose? To purchase sports attire for the upcoming Kabaka's Birthday Run 2024, scheduled to take place on April 7th, 2024.
The funds collected from this endeavor will be directed towards the fight against HIV/AIDS in Buganda and Uganda at large, marking a commendable effort to address a pressing public health issue.
Expressing appreciation for their commitment to standing with the people, particularly in Buganda, where community support is highly valued, the move was hailed as a demonstration of solidarity during times of need.
However, amidst the commendations, the Katikiro of Buganda, Owek Charles Peter Mayega, issued a call for caution, urging the opposition leaders to refrain from politicizing such actions. Instead, he emphasized the importance of unity and collaboration in addressing the challenges ahead, both within the party and in the broader community.
As Buganda and Uganda continue to grapple with the impact of HIV/AIDS, initiatives such as these underscore the importance of collective action and cross-party cooperation in tackling pressing societal issues. With the Kabaka's Birthday Run serving as a platform for both raising awareness and mobilizing resources, it represents an opportunity for unity and solidarity in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
