Uganda Parliament Speaker Anita Among Commends Buganda Kingdom’s HIV/AIDS Initiative During Visit to Bulange Mengo

In a heartwarming display of solidarity and collaboration, Uganda Parliament Speaker Anita Among, accompanied by Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa, Government Chief Whip Hamson Obua, and former Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Mathias Mpuuga, among others, visited the Buganda Kingdom headquarters at Bulange Mengo. Their encounter with Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga was not just a diplomatic exchange but a significant step towards addressing one of Uganda's pressing challenges – HIV/AIDS.

Speaker Among expressed gratitude for the warm reception at Bulange, Mengo, and highlighted the moral obligation of Parliament to lead by example in combating HIV/AIDS. The visit resonated with this year’s theme, "Men are stars in the fight against HIV/AIDS to save the Girl Child," emphasizing the collective responsibility to eliminate this scourge.

Acknowledging the profound impact of HIV/AIDS on Uganda's population, Speaker Among commended the Buganda Kingdom's efforts in complementing the government's initiatives in combating the disease. The unity demonstrated during the visit epitomized the spirit required to confront Uganda’s common challenges and foster sustainable growth and development.

Moreover, Speaker Among urged the public to participate in the upcoming Kabaka's Birthday Run scheduled for April 7th, emphasizing its noble cause in supporting the fight against AIDS in Uganda. She revealed that the Parliament of Uganda contributed 50 million Ugandan shillings, while members of the Buganda Caucus contributed 10 million Ugandan shillings towards this initiative. The funds raised from the run will be instrumental in eradicating AIDS in Uganda by 2030, aligning with the UNAIDS target and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The collaboration between the Uganda Parliament and the Buganda Kingdom exemplifies the importance of collective action in addressing societal challenges. By leveraging resources and fostering partnerships, Uganda stands poised to make significant strides towards a healthier and more prosperous future for all its citizens.

As we look forward to the Kabaka's Birthday Run, let us heed Speaker Among’s call to register and participate, contributing to the noble cause of eradicating HIV/AIDS in Uganda and ensuring a brighter future for generations to come.
